Black Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that forms when molten lava cools so rapidly that mineral crystals cannot develop. This process creates its smooth, glass-like texture and striking black appearance. It is often used in jewelry, carvings, and tools, prized for its unique sheen and sharp edges.
Historically, Black Obsidian has been used by various cultures to craft blades, mirrors, and ceremonial objects, highlighting its functional and aesthetic value.
This stone is revered for its ability to ground and protect. It is believed to act as a shield against negativity, absorbing harmful energies and promoting emotional balance. Black Obsidian is also associated with uncovering hidden truths and fostering self-awareness, helping individuals confront and heal unresolved emotions. Its powerful energy makes it a favored tool for shadow work, meditation, and spiritual transformation.
Black Obsidian is primarily found in regions with active or ancient volcanic activity. Significant sources include Mexico, the United States (notably Oregon and California), Iceland, and Indonesia. Its discovery often occurs near lava flows or volcanic landscapes where the rapid cooling of lava creates this unique glass-like stone. These locations provide the perfect conditions for its formation, making it a treasured find worldwide.
Ruby is a precious gemstone made of the mineral corundum, with its rich red color attributed to traces of chromium. Renowned for its vivid hue and durability, Ruby has been cherished throughout history as a symbol of wealth, power, and passion. Its name derives from the Latin word ruber, meaning “red,” and it has been prominently used in fine jewelry, royal regalia, and cultural artifacts.
Ruby is celebrated as a stone of vitality, love, and courage. It is believed to invigorate the spirit, enhance motivation, and ignite passions, making it a symbol of life force energy. Ruby is also associated with the heart chakra, promoting emotional healing and fostering deep connections in relationships. Additionally, it is thought to bring protection and confidence, helping individuals overcome fear and embrace their inner strength.
Ruby is predominantly found in Myanmar (formerly Burma), which has historically been the most famous source of high-quality rubies. Other notable locations include Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Madagascar. Each region produces rubies with unique characteristics, ranging from vivid pigeon-blood red to pinkish-red hues. These gemstones are typically mined from alluvial deposits or extracted from metamorphic rock formations in these regions.

Meet the Maker
Hi there! My name is Jami Schwager and I live in a small town in Northeastern Illinois named Johnsburg. We are located near the Chain of Lakes waterway and we (I am including my husband and captain of our vessel) LOVE boating on our Bayliner Cabin Cruiser in the summers! When I’m not on my boat you can usually find me making jewelry. In 2022 I decided to make birthstone bracelets with gemstones for the women in my family for Christmas gifts. I have been obsessed with making jewelry ever since! I enjoy coming up with new designs and discovering the beauty in each new gemstone I work with. Now I consider making jewelry my passion. I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoy creating them. Thanks so much for checking out my shop!
